CFIA: Letters of No-Objection
The Bureau of Chemical Safety evaluates the acceptability of various incidental additive products voluntarily submitted by manufacturers wishing to supply their products to food processors. A Letter of No-Objection is issued on the basis of the evaluation if considered acceptable but does not relieve the product user (food processor) from their responsibilities relating to section 4(a) of the Act. An incidental food additive type of review will focus on concern for contamination (as opposed to efficacy performance) and address particular legislation such as the Meat Hygiene Act or the Fish Inspection Act. Federally registered establishments in each of these industries have their own requirements. The CFIA Reference Listing of Acceptable Materials for such establishments must include the manufacturer's product (cleaner, disinfectant, processing aid etc) in order for it to be acceptable for use.
